A very rare David Brown Aircraft Support Unit Tractor c1940.
served at raf boscombe downThe previous owner acquired this David Brown Aircraft Support Unit from RAF Boscombe Down in 2005.
It was manufactured in 1940 and road registered in 1976. It has had 5 former owners over the years. The 2800cc petrol engine runs very well and starts well on the electric start. It has been very reliable with light use around our airfield and attending the odd show. The paint work is good but not perfect. The signwriting is in excellent order. If the 'Follow Me' board was not required by the new owner we would discount the price by £200. |

Running and drivingThe tug runs and drives very well. No power steering back in 1940. You choose a gear and head off. Reverse and 4 forward gears. Clutch is light and the brakes work well.
Top speed is about 28MPH which can get quite bouncy in top gear if it is not towing a weight. It uses petrol and is an easy starter. All electrics work as they should without trouble. You can see a short film of there tug on the left. |
